1816, the coldest year for the past 500 years

That year, snow did not melt above 1700 m high. That year, people were selling land for a few potatoes.

This is not fake news. That very cold year really did happen, and it wasn’t so long ago. Only about two centuries ago, people lived through this terrible year that the English called ‘the year without summer’, which caused the last famine on record in Savoy.
